#24 First Documentary

The Documentary
So last week was the first week in which we started to really film documentaries. Before I talk about that, I should just talk about the other documentary module for a bit. Ms Mary showed us another documentary film, and this time it was about farm animals. Learned about how chicks and chickens are poorly treated and mass-produced to maximise profits, stuff like making their bodies so big that their bones cannot take it and stuff. Farmers were also being used by the sales people, blackmailed by the contract and stuff, so farmers lead really difficult lives. Seems like there's a group of animals we will be feeling sorry for each week o.o

The filming of the documentary was quite tiring. Woke up at 5am so that I could rush to Buona Vista by 6am to meet up with my group so that we could take that one shot of the minimart opening, but we realised that it was a 24-hour shop :/ It's okay though, as we managed to take many other "get ready for morning" shots. Just as my group was getting started, other groups were near finishing. Two groups started filming at 2-3am. Really, wow. Honestly, as tiring and hardcore as it seems, it does actually sound quite fun, filming through the night when the rest of Singapore is still sleeping.

Back to the point, we managed to capture a lot of shots and the minimum number of sequences required. Ms Wai Wai, the sales assistant who is the character in our documentary clip (it's just 2-min btw), was so friendly and cheerful I can't help but admire. It was a pretty peaceful and successful shoot, in my opinion, though a little tiring. Bought early lunch for her so that we could film her having lunch at the cashier! It's not directed, it's just "manipulated" :p

Cabbed back to school to return the equipment because once you take a cab, you won't want to take other forms of transport anymore. The rest of the week had been nothing much going on.

The Game
On a completely random note, my new obsession is the Final Fantasy series. I want to play many FF games because they all seem fun. When I was younger, I watched my brother play FF7/8/9, but I hardly understood the stories because I was a kind of ignorant kid. Now that I replayed FF7, I must say I understand why there was a hype about it. Tifa Lockhart is now my favourite character :D

So today's Interactive Media lesson was about game bibles, game worlds, game characters, and stuff. Each group had to choose a favourite character to take part in a mock talent pageant. And one of the group member would represent the character. So, surprisingly, Joey, Zi Wei, and I all liked Tifa, and Wai Meng was fine with using her, so Joey represented her. Quite interesting.

Got our CA1 brief. Suppose to create the concept for an iPad game for 7-13 years old, I think. Feel like going all out for this one because it's something I'm interested in, and the rest of this semester other than web publishing and psychology look bleak. Unfortunately, it's individual. It would've been fun to do this in a group.

Monday
Mundane Monday. As usual, had Mr Esman's web publishing class. Got our project groups which we would stick to till the end of the module. My group is pretty balanced and peaceful: Pascal, Zhao Yi, Mei Jun, Shreya, and me. We were supposed to revamp the website for a client, and my group's client is Singapore Insurance Institute. Time to learn up on insurances :S We hardly understood anything in their website until Mr Esman decided to explain to us.

The rest of the class was Dreamweaver. Learned about "containers", the very thing I had been struggling with. Usually I code with "tables" rather than "containers", but somehow containers are better. I finally get the gist of how Dreamweaver works. It basically helps you to generate codes in clicks of buttons, which I believe is how many people do websites nowadays, but I still prefer typing the codes. Comfort zone.

Anyway, after web publishing was my dip-plus. Every week is so interesting. This week was an elaboration of the Freud's theory, more about the psychosexual development. A lot of interesting facts. Made me feel like I wasn't psychosexually developed properly. Next was about social systems. Learned about hierarchy, social structure, and so on. Did this activity about how people in groups are linked to one another and how one's action may influence the whole group. Interesting. For our CA1, we were suppose to analyse our families. This is going to be difficult, but luckily we have up to the 9th or 10th week for this assignment.

Today
As for today, it was lesson followed by pizzahut and movie. Watched 'Looper'. Honestly, it was pretty confusing for me even though it's supposingly a simple concept. I didn't like it, for it was a little boring and lacks development, and literally half of the time I didn't know what's going on. Everything only began to make sense and become interesting at the other half of the movie. Not saying that it's bad, just that it's not my type of movie. In fact, I heard comments and reviews that it's one of the best movies this year, or something like that.

I guess now that I'm done with blogging, I shall indulge in my FF7 world :)
