#23 A DTVMer's Week

To continue with where I left off, I shall talk about the remaining modules that I have, except for SIP, because my lecturer wasn't here, thus no lesson.

Content Production 2: Documentary Making (CP2):
This module was taken by Ms May Lin. It's also about documentary, but more of the filming aspect. The key thing about this lesson was the CA1 recce. Went to Ghim Moh to look for people to do a short 2-minute documentary clip on. Managed to get this passionate minimart sales assistant cum cashier. Tried to get some wet market people, but they are way too busy to let us film. It's really squeezy anyway. Going to film this Thursday, camp outside the shop at 6am to film it open. Early! o_o But I heard other groups who needed to start filming at 3am? Life of a documentary maker and life of a wet market person.

Total Journalism (TJ):
I have to say that Ms Gamar, the lecturer, did a good job in making journalism sound fun. The whole travel to dangerous places to see things you don't get to see as a non-journalist aspect of it hooked me, but I know I'm not a passionate news person. I hardly read them in the first place. She talked about how journalists are hated because they tend to know too much and how it is a dangerous job and stuff. Heard stories about them getting beaten up innocently as well. Sounds challenging but exciting, but then there's the news writing aspect.

So anyway, we're indeed getting our iPads next Friday~ They let us use it for free until the end of year 3 semester 1. Cool but scary. Have to take good care of it, but seeing how I am the killer of gadgets, I'm quite worried. And she also gave us identification tags. Apparently, going to journalism class will be treated as entering a newsroom.

So those are the stuff that went on last week. Of course, the tuition went on as usual. That kid was more distracted than ever, either that or I was less patient because I was tired. I was slightly rude to him. Now I understand why many primary school teachers are seemingly so impatient.

Then the rest of the weekend was completely rest, before school starts on Monday again. Mr Esman's class was fine. Did this activity in which we looked at the nature or architecture of our surroundings to find alphabets. We were supposed to take pictures of these alphabets to form our names. It was meant to open our minds and stuff. Quite interesting. The rest of the lesson was about Dreamweaver, Photoshop, web-managing, and some web proposal document thing.

Dip-plus was fun. Learnt about Freud's theory again. My lecturer was trying her best to get us guys to say that we look at girls' "parts" o_o We also did a role-playing activity, some competition kind of thing. My group (the losers), got forfeited to do the Gangnam Style dance :/ And some overly-curious people were looking from outside the class :S

Today is almost fine. Ms Mary, being her usual self, made the class fun by letting us play with her kinect as a warm-up, since the lesson was about game. I wish we had the capability to show more enthusiasm, but it was pretty fun. Lecture about the things writers need to take note of when writing for games. We were allowed to play with games that we brought (I brought FF7) for around 5 minutes. The CA1 seems to be going to be quite interesting. Going to write the plot and cutscenes for a short iPad game.

Headed to Old Changi Road with some of my classmates to have lunch. Mine was nice, but I regret for having a small stomach such that I can't finish eating whatever I was eating. A pity Joey had to leave early. After Wai Meng left too, we hung around to chat about random stuff, mostly childhood shows that we liked. I realise my childhood isn't all that complete, never having watched stuff like Barnie, Bananas in Pyjamas, Sesame Street, and shows that I don't even know exist. But they're just shows, so meh.

Not looking forward to the rest of the week :/ Except Friday, which is a holiday.
