I would say that I've had my best weekend in a while, and I'm grateful for it because I could've been spending much of it in camp, doing guard duty, had my detachment mates not fought for me. I shall not elaborate on it for now.
Friday being Labour Day, we had a slightly longer weekend. That was the good thing about this week. Another good thing was that on Thursday, we went back to our previous camp for one of the activities, of which the facility was only available there. As our master sergeant puts it (albeit disapprovingly), our heart is still there (actually, mine isn't. You know how much I hated it, but for the sake of generalising...).
Other than that, I would say I'd been rather angry this week, so I needed to do a lot of ranting. Fortunately, CX, who lived near my camp, was free enough for dinner right after I booked out, so we just dined and I raved about many of the things that pissed me off. Sometimes we just need definitive places to point our anger at.
After a night's sleep, I woke up on Friday morning, feeling refreshed and okay. I wanted to watch The Avengers with Jt, Guang Yi, Wei Jian, and Zi Xing, because Wei Jian had some free tickets for some reason, but then there were only four, and I responded earlier on that I would not be going, so I couldn't go.
Instead, I joined them for lunch at AMK and I ranted about the exact same thing again because they saw a tweet I posted and asked me about it. We then headed to a shop in a secluded area which people would usually not pass by to get kites; we would be flying them the next day.
We headed to Jt's new house to relax afterwards. While doing so, we watched a creepy show about encounters with strange creatures, urban legends, aliens, or ghosts. One of them creeped me out more than the others. It was about two black-eyed kids and how they tried to convince people to let them into their car in a deserted carpark in the middle of the night. Obviously, they were not really kids.
So we spent Friday doing nothing much. On Saturday, we met up early to have buffet at Kiseki. I'm not a big fan of Japanese food, but I won't turn down salmon. Jt, Guang Yi, Wei Jian, Zi Xing, Jessica, and I reached first with a birthday cake from Chocolate Origins, because Han Hui's birthday was coming soon. After a very long time, Joshua and Han Hui reached too.
When we were leaving, we were really full so we decided to have the cake at Marina Barrage, where we would be flying the kite. So, in an attempt to disguise the cake as kite-flying materials, a bunch of us went to the toilet to "shape" the plastic bag. I left first because the toilet was getting crowded, but to my astonishment, when they finally brought the disguised plastic bag out, it looked even more like a box of cake. In other words, they suck.
I kept the whole group waiting as I went to buy some clothes, and then I kept them waiting again as Jt and I went to get Koi. Then when we reach Marina Bay station, Joshua and Han Hui kept us waiting because he insisted on trying to tie her hair in the middle of nowhere. Then the bus kept us waiting. And then Joshua kept Han Hui waiting, pretending to go to the toilet. And then we did the "surprise! There's a birthday cake" thing that people always do on birthdays.
It was a really windy day - not good for trying to keep the candle alive but ideal for kite flying. Unfortunately, after too many failed attempts, I gave up and played with bubbles instead. After a long while, most of us got tired, so Wei Jian, Jt, and I played Chinese Checkers. It was our first time playing it because when we were children, we never knew the rules to the game, so it was actually quite interesting.
After we got tired of it, we started playing Monkey with a frisbee that Wei Jian and Joshua bought. It was hilarious, especially when Jt kept forgetting who the monkey was. It was quite easy for me to just ask her to throw the frisbee to me when I was the monkey.
One thing I like about Marina Barrage is that it is picture perfect. It is a patch of grass where families and friends gather and do all sorts of things. There are bubbles, kites, running kids, people having picnic, a lot of noise, nice surroundings, setting sun, and all that. That is my idea of a family weekend.
Jt had to leave at night to have dinner with her father, but the rest of us headed over to Ru Wen's stall to have tze char again. Somehow, the conversation started to rear towards China history at some point, and it's quite impressive how well Ru Wen and Joshua (and maybe Wei Jian) know their stuff. The rest of us were just pretending to nod our heads now and then by the side.
Dinner like this was a great way to end a great day. I looked forward to kite flying and I wasn't wrong to have done that. Sometimes life gives us little perfect days like this.
