Recounts and Ramblings #18

I'm having a camp tomorrow. Need to be at the train station at 7am, so I probably have to wake up pretty early. Luckily, my mum is fetching me to the train station at woodlands, so I can wake up at 5.30am. Plus I'm lucky to live in Bishan. Shall update about the camp.

Anyway, there are certain things to update about before I head to Ipoh for the camp.

RIT submission
Finished up the scriptwriting and editing and submitted our video on Friday. Hopefully can score well. When we were doing the voiceover at paya lebar, we couldn't find a quite enough place, so we had to get into some linking "room" in between the Popular's cashier area and the stairs. It was pretty awkward when the working people walked pass us and looked at us weirdly, because there's usually nobody there. Quite funny.

Clique picnic
Had a picnic at Marina Barrage with Cong Xu, Mei Jun, Stefanie, Joey, Avelin, Matin, Hazel, Pascal, Zi Wei, and Elijah last Monday. It was meant to be a surprise celebration for Avelin. They contributed stuffs like honey-glazed chicken, home-cooked fried rice, rainbow cupcakes, and decoration of cakes. Probably should show some pictures, but I'm typing this pretty fast so I guess I'll skip that.

Flew kites and played games like lao ying zhua xiao ji (the eagle catches the chicks) and zombie catching. Feel quite childish again, which is a good thing. Then it started to rain, so we went to the sheltered area to play werewolf. Pretty fun.

Matin, Hazel, and Elijah went off soon and the rest of us went to Just Acia to eat as well as chat. Walked around a little after that before heading home.

Wei Jian's surprise birthday celebration
The surprise was not just on Wei Jian, it was on me as well because I totally had no idea we're celebrating until the last minute because apparently, Guang Yi forgot to tell me o.o Anyway, as usual, we gave him a fake cake. This time it's a cheap pandan cake, but he looked satisfied with it. We were cooking up lies like "sorry, we're really on budget these few days" and he seemed fine, but then the big cake came.

Ru Wen's mum cooked up lots of food and even aglio olio for him and it was a pretty nice "session" because most of us were there, plus Seng Hwee. Gave him his card, which was pink, anyhow-covered, but had heartfelt messages and pictures. I guess I should put photos again, but I'm still kind of rushing the post, so yeah.

Chatted about relationships and stuff (again) because Wei Jian got a girlfriend. Now only Guang Yi and I have no experience, but who cares :D

On the MRT ride home, there was this transvestite whom Ru Wen and the three pals were super-obviously avoiding. I seem to be the last to see her and they were laughing like mad -.- I was awkward and moved a little further, partly because she was drunk and leaning on two seats and stuff as well!

4th September
I don't know how to label today, so I guess I'll just name its date. Woke up early to get my ears flushed. It's not as comfortable as I heard it would be, but now I'm so relieved it's some loads off my ears.

Went to school to listen to this animation-writing talk. Pretty interesting, and totally can see that the 2 speakers were really enthusiastic. Animation is really interesting and one of the only things that is stopping me from pursuing it is the fact that my drawing sucks. But if there's one big thing I get away from the speakers, it is that if you want to write for something, you have to learn to make that something.

If you want to write for films, learn to shoot films. If you want to write for animation, learn to create animations. If you want to write for games, learn to create games. The writing will be the focus, but we need to understand what the producers need and are looking for. I don't play a lot of games but I may be pursuing for the gaming industry because it's interesting. Plus that guy said that games are kind of in demand for good stories nowadays and it's a relatively good time for us to break into the industry.

Had lunch with Avelin, then headed to Temasek Polytechnic to visit Joey at her work. She was doing model search for her internship. Heard stories about her job and it's super funny. Shall not talk about it here though. Stefanie started her internship today as well, in Bishan actually, and she's not in a good position either, with office politics, age gaps, and stuff. From them two I can tell that the working world is really another world altogether. Intimidating.

But friends will try to be there for one another, right? :)
