Unfortunately, classes resumed this week. It also marks the start of all the rushing for assignments. I still have 10 assignments left for the term (it's scary to look at it this way), and this week we were just done with one major presentation and I was just done with my dip-plus test.
Web Concept Pitch
For that presentation, we had to come up with a concept on how to revamp a website for a client, and my group is revamping for Singapore Insurance Institute. Fortunately, my group had been moving at a stable pace, so we could finish everything on time. I'm glad our client was nice. Too bad I wasn't able to fake a composure like I always do in presentations :S For one, I wasn't used to the big screen and the mic. However, the client gave us generally favourable feedback, so I'm pretty relieve. But because we're a bit ambitious, we now have to programme stuffs in ways we've not learned to. Mr Esman calls this independent learning :(
Dip-plus Test
It was an oral test. We were given questions, had to research the answers and basically answer the questions using our mouths for the test. I got a question I was hoping not to get, but I guess I was able to wing through the unclear parts. Pretty confident for this one.
Documentary
So for weeks, we had been trying to search for a decent profile, and Hazel and Joey finally found one for us. I forgot his name, but he's an undertaker. It's scary to be filming his job, but it's going to be a great story. My religious leader said it's going to be alright too. Our only concern is that we could not film the deceased when their families are around, because it's insensitive, so we had to wait for someone who does not have a family to pass away. Alternatively, we could film the undertaker's daily life. Even though people die everyday, I don't hope that people die alone. But I really hope that we get to film a great story. Ironic much.
Anyway, that guy was great. He was super kind for letting us film him and for choosing to work in this job to help people. I remember when my grandparents passed away, it's people with this job who handled the difficult things and keep everyone calm.
Social Innovation Project
We finished up on our ideation for SIP last Friday. Today, we created a prototype for our product, which is a gadget. My group's project was to create something to help elderlies sleep better. As our research and analysis pointed to "fear of abandonment" as a reason to not sleep well, our product was a gadget to help elderlies connect better with their families. The idea isn't fantastic, but at least we did something. Hopefully it'll give us a superficial A :D
This Week
So on Monday, we returned to school for Web Publishing & Design (WPD). No dreamweaver on that day. It was project time. Had to redo the layout, so somehow time just zoomed by while we were trying to get new mock-ups done. Did a mock-presentation with Mr Esman as well. After that, I rushed to FC6 to meet Anthea and Hui Xian to study for the psychology test. Afterwards was the test itself.
On Tuesday, we had Writing for the New & Interactive Media. It was a pretty quick lesson about Alternate Reality Games and writing for the web. Officially got our CA2 brief as well. It seems pretty much to do, and it's due 2 weeks later. Rush rush rush.
Went to Ru Wen's house at night for mahjong with her, Guang Yi, and her friend Shi Xian. Ru Wen cooked noodles for us. I lost $29 :( Time to buck up.
On Wednesday, I didn't go to school because I had a doctor's appointment at Tan Tock Seng hospital. The doctor gave me a new set of advice, so now I can eat more kinds of food. Really glad, but this does not mean absolute freedom yet. But it's a step.
Afterwards, headed to school to prepare for and do the presentation for WPD. Went to meet Jt after that in Bishan, because she misses Bishan. Chatted and made fun of broken English. "You guys are very the irritates". Haha.
On Thursday, I didn't go to school again because of a dentist's appointment. After that, went to meet Joey, Hazel, and Zi Wei at Lavender to interview the undertaker and discuss with him our filming dates and what we will be filming. Had late lunch with Joey and Stefanie after the discussion, and talked about our first year in school again. Memories. Sometimes it's quite hard to grasp how fast things have changed. For one, I don't want to be the person I was anymore.
Today was SIP, followed by Total Journalism (TJ). Discussed entertainment journalism. Not my cup of tea. Officially got our CA2 and she returned us our CA1 test. I scored pretty well - 78. Ms Gamar actually said something in class that kind of made me decide that journalism is indeed not my passion. She said: "Journalism is not a job. It is a calling." But I didn't feel called upon.
So, I guess that's the week. I've got tuition tomorrow again. For the past few weeks, my enthusiasm had been depleting, but I've made up my mind to put in lots of efforts to help this kid, because half-heartedness is not the way. It's another battle for me, hopefully a fun one!
