Decisions

You are in a dilemma. There are two paths for you to take, and these two paths lead to different places. You asked yourself, "Which path should i take? What should be my decision? Which path is it that will bring me more happiness/challenge?"

You start to list down the pros and cons of each path to take, and then end up getting even more frustrated and confused; path A is good because it's safe, secure and peaceful. But, path B is also good because of the challenges and excitements. What choice should you make to be rewarded better?

Sometimes, it does come down to luck.

I've watched an anime quite long ago called "Higurashi no naku koro ni", season 3. In one of the episodes, a character named Rika had to make a decision; she had to decide between her mother's life or her own happiness. After a long struggle, Rika made the decision that she wanted her own happiness (by the way this anime is a psychological horror), so she had to kill her mother with her own hands, and she did. After that, she began feeling really guilty. She killed her mother just to get her personal happiness. It sounds completely incorrigible here but if you watch the whole anime you'll know why it isn't as horrible as it sounds. Anyway, she felt really down, so another character, Rena, gave her a lecture about "decisions".

Before she did, she played a game with Rika. She back-faced rika and took some sweets out to put them into her hands. Then she closed both her left and her right palms. After that, she reached both hands out and told rika to choose one. She would get sweets if she chose the correct hand. So, rika went along and chose one of rena's hand (i forgot which, but let's pretend that it's the left hand). Rena smiled sweetly, and then opened her left palm. Rika had chose it right. Lying on rena's left palm was a candy. Rika was happy, so she ate the candy and said, "This candy tastes so delicious especially because i won the game :)"

Rena smiled again, and asked a question, "Are you sure you won the game?" She then opened her right palm. Lying on the palm was, not just one, but two candies, much to Rika (and my) astonishment. Rena started her speech after that. I forgot what she said, so i'll just write my own paragraph of moral.

You never know which one is the right path to take. Just like rena's game, you won't know which hand the candies are in. But when you made a decision and get rewarded accordingly, the sense of satisfaction is always there. But, have you made the best decision? Perhaps, but maybe not. The other path might have been more rewarding, but you won't know if you've actually lost the "game". You think you've won. You will never know the answer. Rika killed her own mother for personal happiness. If i remember correctly, she said/implied that she would've probably made the same decision if she was given a chance again.

So, you have two paths to take. Which path will bring you more happiness? You don't know, but, in a way, it's up to you to judge it. You will not regret your decision. In life, of course, there are regrets all over, but if you've considered really carefully and took things seriously, the more important thing after making your decision is to start feeling happy about it. Look forward to the rewards of your decision. This is because you never know whether the one you've made is the best or not.
