This Beautiful World

I've saw quite alot of things recently which emphasized on how beautiful this world is. At the same time, i've saw and heard people complain about how our country is boring and empty and how people in this world are selfish and materialistic. I used to be affected by such comments and ended up agreeing. But now, i've seen this world in a different light. We're indeed surrounded by lots of cars, very little trees and perhaps some very mean people, but this doesn't mean that we're people with nothing beautiful around us.

Before i move on, let's do a recap on a story we've heard when we were young. I heard this story in chinese class in primary school. It's called "Frog in the well". There was this frog who lived in a small well. One day, a turtle felt thirsty and went to the well to have a drink. The frog described to the turtle how happy he was in the well. He said that the sky was round and beautiful and he could do whatever he wanted in the well. He could sing, swim and so on. The turtle then asked the frog whether he had been out of the well. He then went on to describe how beautiful the ocean and all that was. Hearing that, the frog began feeling very unachieved. The moral of the story was that we must learn to step out of our own world and experience the bigger world outside. However, i'll say that the frog wasn't fully at fault. True, the frog should have gotten out of the well and experience the outside world, but he had also been doing great in embracing the beauty around him, no? Instead of crying and complaining about how dull his life was and instead of comparing with some proud turtle who showed off about his experiences, he initially embraced every beauty around him. He said that the sky was beautiful. He said that the water was comfortable. Everything was wonderful for him until a random turtle burst his bubble.

Beauty is all around us. We don't have to go sightseeing in China yet if we haven't even notice what we have. Start from a park or even a bus stop. Look at how uniquely the steps were made, how beautifully the soil trapped rainwater and how creatively the sky expresses its feelings. All these are around us. It is us who have not noticed. Even the drainage can look beautiful after the rain when it is flooded.

Appreciate all the tranquility that you experience and every small little things that you have. This way, you will enjoy life more.
